2026 Grassroots Program

Canada Soccer Grassroots is the foundation of player development across the country, designed to introduce children to the game in a fun, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate environment. The program emphasizes enjoyment, participation, and physical literacy rather than results or competition, ensuring that young players build confidence and a love for the game. By using age-appropriate coaching methods, simplified rules, and small-sided formats, Grassroots soccer allows players to have more touches on the ball, more decision-making opportunities, and an overall better learning experience.

Beyond technical skill development, the Grassroots model focuses on holistic growth—social, physical, emotional, and cognitive. The approach encourages fair play, teamwork, creativity, and individual expression while ensuring that players feel safe and supported regardless of ability or background. Manitoba Soccer Association (MSA) has committed to a province-wide implementation, with a multi-year rollout beginning in 2026, initially targeting U8, U9, and U10 programming. Winnipeg Phoenix Football Club (WPFC), aligned with both MSA and Canada Soccer’s standards, is committed to supporting and applying this rollout to enhance development pathways for young players and strengthen the long-term future of the game within the club and the wider community.

Phoenix FC will be offering two opportunities as an introduction and transition to the new grassroots programming.

Introduction to Grassroots Program
- Two 1-hour sessions at Gateway Rec Centre
- Opportunity to come try out the new style of training
- $30 fee (Online registration only)

U8 Girls - Jan 6th & 8th @ 5:00pm
U9 Girls - Jan 6th & 8th @ 6:00pm
U10 Girls - Jan 6th & 8th @ 7:00pm

U8 Boys - Jan 5th & 7th @ 5:00pm
U9 Boys - Jan 5th & 7th @ 6:00pm
U10 Boys - Jan 5th & 7th @ 7:00pm

*All sessions at Gateway Rec Centre

12 Week Grassroots Program
- 24 Total sessions - 2x a week
- Runs from late January to mid April
- 2:1 Ratio - 16 training sessions / 8 match style
- Inter-club matches to be coordinated
- $350 fee (Online registration only)
- $30 discount for those who attend the Introduction sessions
